Buchanan Outlasts Largest Field in MPS History for First Win

Gary "Doc" Buchanan picked up his first ever MPS nightly tournament win on Monday, July 27 at Mac's Hideaway. Outlasting a 30 player field, "Doc" battled his way from the short stack to the final table. Stepping up the aggression as the final table progressed, Buchanan shifted into high gear during heads up play, frustrating the usually ultra-aggressive Mike Harlow into fold after fold. When Doc finally got Mike to call off all his money on a gut-shot straight draw, he showed pocket aces and took down the victory.

John Coleman: Our 2nd Nightly Tournament Winner

John is no stranger to the winner's circle, so we're not surprised he became the 2nd person to ever win a Midwest Poker Series event. John had to grind his way through a tough 26 player field. Despite seeing his chip stack go up and down all night....John found his groove at the final table and rode that momentum to victory.

Our Inaugural Champion: Mark Hengartner

We would like to congratulate Mark Hengartner for earning the title of Midwest Poker Series Inaugural Champion. Mark battled his way through 29 players, switching gears often, using the power of his chip stack to imtimidate opponents when necessary. It was not an easy field to navigate, and Mark should take pride in the title of Inaugural Champion. There could only be one. Job well done Mark.

Tournament Locations: Sam's Food and Spirits

Located at 3800 Payne Koehler Rd. (the corner of Blackiston Mill Rd. and Charlestown Rd.) Sam's is one of the premier bars and restaurants in the Southern Indiana area. A staple of the New Albany community, Sam's offers seating for 275, 69 menu items, carry out and catering, as well as a fully stocked bar area. Sam's will host the MPS Thursdays @ 7:00pm starting June 24!

Daily lunch specials are featured six days a week, Monday - Saturday. And there's more to Sam's than just the Midwest Poker Series. Be sure to come out to Sam's on Tuesday at 8:30 and Saturday nights at 9pm to check out trivia night. But make sure to call ahead, because if you don't, you might not get a seat.

Tournament Locations: Mac's Hideaway

Located at 1636 Slate Run Rd. in New Albany, this is a familiar location to many Indiana poker players. Mac's will begin hosting MPS tournaments every Monday at 7:00PM starting July 12th! For those unfamiliar with Mac's, it is one of the largest bars in all of Southern Indiana. One look and you'll want to come check out all that Mac's has to offer.

Tournament Locations: MYbar

MYbar, formerly The Menu, is one of the area’s premier nighttime destinations. Located at 3306 Plaza Drive in New Albany, MYbar was named Best Nightclub 2009 by Velocity. MYbar is more than just the stereotypical bar/club. Opening at 5PM daily, MYbar keeps the atmosphere mellow before the sun goes down. With plenty of TVs, and top-notch cocktails, you can kick back in style and catch your favorite sports team in action.

If you’re more of a night owl, come by after dark and dance the night away to some of the best bands and DJs in the area.

MYbar will be hosting the MPS Tuesdays @ 7:00PM beginning June 22!
